2014 Ford Fiesta coming this week
Ford will launch the much awaited 2014 Fiesta this week, reports has conformed. The next-gen Fiesta which will be available initially in diesel engine only, was showcased at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo in February. The decision to launch the diesel version first in the competitive Indian automotive market came after a stiff market research. The mid-size sedan has seen many interesting changes inside and out in its new avatar.
According to the reports, if the diesel engine does well in the market, Ford will come up with the petrol variant most probably later this year. The all new Fiesta, powered by a 90bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, carries an upright look with raised bonnet, redesigned headlights, body colored bumpers with fog lamps, bigger front grille and new alloy wheels. It is interesting that the new Fiesta looks bigger and masculine but it carries the same dimensions as its previous model.
The new Fiesta stands tall on mileage with 25.01 kmpl. Mileage can be a factor for the mid-size sedan to succeed in the Indian market.
Standard Features
The 2014 Fiesta with only diesel variant will be available in three versions – Ambiente, Trend and Titanium. Height adjustable driver seat, ‘guide me home’ headlights, split-folding rear seat, electrically adjustable side mirrors and remote locking are some standard features in new Fiesta. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) are also come as standard safety features in all versions of new Fiesta. Ambiente model gets only driver airbag but Trim and Titanium models get passenger airbags as well.
What’s missing?
No music system at all in the base model of new Fiesta. It was little unexpected from the Ford. Mainline system with connectivity facility is available only in the top end variant Titanium. The base version Ambiente lacks almost all the features like body colored mirrors and door handles, leather covered steering wheel, fog lamps, auto climate control, cruise control, wheel covers etc. Only the top end variant carries all the features that should have been standard in the new Fiesta.
The Fiesta Trend, the mid model though has got features like music system with six-speaker CD, USB, AUX-in connectivity and wheel covers but lacks the other features that the top model Titanium has. Ford Titanium has electrically folding mirrors, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, alloy wheels and automatic headlights and wipers.
Interior
Interior posts an elegant look with grey-black theme. The spacious interior is available in just one theme for now. Comfortable for 5 adults, the 2014 Ford Fiesta posts a refreshed look.
Fiesta in India
Fiesta sedan came to India in 2011 but it wasn’t welcomed well. Ford is playing a little smart this time and launching just the diesel version first. Its success will decide the future of petrol version of the new car. The petrol variant is expected to feature the EcoSport’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine good for 123bhp. The new Fiesta is expected to cost quite competitively.
