Mini Cars in India
Mini is a British automotive brand owned by BMW AG which specializes in producing small compact cars. Mini originated in 1959 as a product of the British Motor Corporation. Mini Mark I was the first car produced in 1959 and was identified mainly for its exterior door hinges and sliding doors along with other various specialty features such as a mustache grille. Mini has had a varied history being owned and sold multiple times after finally attaining stability when BMW purchased it from British Aerospace in 1994. BMW acquisition has been the best bit of business because since then the Mini brand went from strength to strength establishing itself as a prominent world renowned car manufacturer.
Mini’s venture in India began when BMW decided to launch four of its model in 2012 i.e. Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S, Mini Convertible and Mini Cooper S Countryman. BMW initially planned to launch MINI cars in India in 2009 global market recession delayed it to 2012. In 2012, with new strategies and four variants to boot, BMW launched the Mini Series during the Auto Expo. The total sales for BMW and Mini accounted to 8000 units in 2013 but details about Mini’s share were not revealed. BMW has decided to launch Mini John Cooper Works soon to strengthen Mini’s presence in India.
