Opel Cars in India

Opel, a German automobile manufacturer, which started with sewing machine in 1862 by Adam Opel, now is one of the leading automobile companies in the world. The company began manufacturing bicycles in 1886 and produced its first automobile in 1899.
In 1929, Opel became a wholly-owned subsidiary company of United States-based General Motors, as the company took a majority stake of Opel. The company designs, engineers, manufactures and distributes Opel-branded passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and vehicle parts for distribution in the markets like Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.
Opel designed and manufactured vehicles are also sold under the Buick brand in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China and the Vauxhall brand in the United Kingdom. Headquartered in Rüsselsheim, the company has 11 plants and four development and test centers in seven European countries. Opel started its operations in India as Opel India Private Limited (OIPL), but discontinued from India since 2006 and was replaced by Chevrolet because Opel cars failed to make a mark in the Indian market. A division of General Motors, Chevrolet has offices in Gujarat, Gurgaon and Bangalore in India.
