Car Racing

Car Racing in India accounts for a long history. A detail study of our history can reveal that in the Ancient and Medieval Periods, Kings and other Emperors were eager for Chariot Racing. Gradually in the Modern Era, with the advent of the Zamindari System, Bullock Cart racing became popular. Thus Indians always had fascinations for 'wheels'. This fascination and inclination towards the wheels led to the development of Car Racing in India in a dynamic way in the 21st Century
At present Car racing in India exists in different forms. Many companies today are coming forward to highlight this sport.
Immense development of technologies is also giving a good impetus to this event. In this context, it is important to note that the main impetus behind the promotion of Car Racing in India, lies with The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). It was established in 1971. FMSCI is representing in India by being the member of Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Federation Internal de I'automobile (FIA). It should be imbibed in our minds that FMSCI is the only organization recognized by the Government of India to promote Car Racing in India. Different companies have been grouped in by FMSCI for boosting Car Racing in India. Companies like MRF tyres, JK tyres, Ceat tyres, hero honda and many more are active in sponsoring, organizing and boosting the event. Long back in 1957, the Madras Motor Sports Club organized the first official All India Motor Race Meet.

In India the different events in car racing, includes mainly Rallying, Drag Race, Auto Cross, Gymkhana and Speed Event. Each of these events has their respective qualities and styles. The racing cars that are vogue in India are, Formula Rolon Chevrolet, FISSME, Formula LGB Swift and Formula LGB Hyundai. Each of them has its own configurations and features. Like Formula Rolon Chevrolet which is used in Coimbatore and Chennai is a one seater car, whose tires are made by JK tyres. The car is platformed on a steel base and a 1600 cc engine is fixed in it.

So far we have discussed about organizations, different events and different sport scars, however the discussion remains incomplete without mentioning the name of Narain Karthikeyan in this context. He is the pride of India in car racing. He was born in Coimbatore, in 1977. He has participated both in National and International events and achieved enormous prestige and recognition.

Therefore, it can be concluded that Car Racing in India has enough glories and prospects. In all aspects, it is at par with the Developed Nations. In the days to come it is definite that Car Racing in India would reach the height of its glories.
