Volkswagen Replaced by BMW as the Main Sponsors of the Berlin Film Festival

Bayerischfirst_bmw_logoe Motoren Werke, better known as BMW, which is the world’s largest luxury automaker, has overtaken Volkswagen AG as the main sponsor of the Berlin Film Festival 2010.

The classic as well as latest cars of BMW like the 5- series Gran Turismo will be seen ferrying the star as well as the visitors around the city of AG from 11th February to 21st February.

While Volkswagen has sponsored the past seven festivals, its contract wasn’t renewed in 2009.

Karsten Engel, head of the BMW’s German sales, feels delighted to be associated with the Berlinale. Besides this, Engel also pointed towards the long tradition of the car company appearing the movies.

Actor Pierce Brosnan drove a BMW Z8 in the 1999 James Bond series “The World is not enough” and appearance of Audi A6 in Daniel Craig starrer Bond series “Quantum of Solace”.

Whereas, Volkswagen that has set its sights on going beyond BMW as the leading luxury Carmaker has appeared in the blockbusters like ‘Iron Man’ and ‘I Robot’.

BMW is optimistic about boosting its connections with the film industry, which will surely give a rise to the brand’s exposure.

The Carmaker will be sponsoring the “BMW Golden Bear Lounge” at the film festival and it will also provide a fleet of cars.

Besides BMW, the other main sponsors of the Film Festival are German Television Channel ZDF and cosmetics Makeover brand, L’ Oreal.
