Volkswagen Launches Phaeton In Direct Competition With Mercedes S-Class

Volkswagen has launched its luxury sedan model Phaeton and pitted it right against the S-Class Mercedes in terms of pricing and engine specifications. Earlier showcased at the Auto Expo 2010, New Delhi, the model is now on display at the showrooms. Priced at a hefty Rs. 76,29,128 (ex-showroom, Delhi), Phaeton is powered by 3.6L V6 petrol engine that delivers maximum power of 280 PS (206 KW) @ 6250 rpm and maximum torque of 370 Nm @3500 rpm which is mated with 6-speed tip-tronic transmission.

The latest luxury model from Volkswagen features classic seamless exteriors and state of the art features like Bi-Xenon headlights with head light washers, cornering lights, ORVMs with integrated turn signals and day time running lights,. The interiors speak volumes with plush luxury features viz. front & rear, with rear view camera, park distance control, anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring, ‘sensitive’ leather upholstery, telephone preparation with blue-tooth, RNS810 music system with 10 loudspeakers, 18-way front seat adjustment with memory function, navigation & USB and Genuine poplar wood inserts with ergonomically placed analogue clock in the dashboard.

The model is fully loaded with additional safety features such as ESP, ABS, EDL, ASR with 8 airbags and tyre pressure monitoring system. Volkswagen sure wants to capture a bigger share of the ever-expanding consumer base of luxury segment automobiles in India.
