Maruti launches Celerio CNG

To extend it reign in the budget car segment, India’s favorite and largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has launched the CNG version of its small car Celerio. The new version is called Celerio Green and it’ll be high on fuel efficiency with a slightly less power than Celerio petrol. Maruti offers various petrol engine models of Celerio but the CNG variant will be available only in Vxi model.

Basically, a petrol engine mated with a CNG power output is called as the CNG variant of a car. It can run on petrol and CNG both. All new Celerio Green will feature the same 1.0-litre 998cc KNext engine with 58bhp of power, which is approximately 10bhp less than the petrol version. The decently powerful engine provides enough quickness to the car for city driving. It can go from 0-100kmph in around 15 seconds. Maruti has tweaked its suspension system as well to handle the added weight of CNG cylinder.

Maruti has used its patented i-GPI system in Celerio Green to provide a better fuel efficiency. The car maker claims that Celerio Green will return an unbelievable mileage of around 31.79km/kg which is far more than Celerio petrol’s mileage of 23.1kmpl. No other car in the segment provides such high fuel efficiency. Maruti has used the advanced i-GPI system previously in WagonR and Ertiga.

The Celerio CNG is paired with the 5-speed manual transmission system. Celerio is available with automatic transmission system as well.

Maruti launched the Celerio in February this year. The same was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo this year right before its launch. The car is on a running success since its launch and Maruti has reportedly made more than 36,000 bookings so far. Celerio is believed to be on a waiting period of 6-8 months.

Celerio Green is competitively priced at Rs. 4.68 lakh (Delhi) and Rs. 4.92 lakh (Mumbai). Celerio’s top version AMT Celerio too costs less than Rs 5 lakhs making it one of the most preferred vehicles in the segment. Its Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) version is in huge demand and the launch of highly fuel efficient Celerio Green, waiting period is expected to go up further.

The base price for Celerio with manual transmission starts at Rs. 3.90 lakh and goes upto Rs. 4.90 lakh for the automatic version. Celerio is the direct competition to Hyundai i10.
