Ford Figo phases out its own Fusion

With the launch of Figo lined up for next month, the days of fusion are numbered in the Indian market, as ford plans to withdraw the large hatch. While talking about the compact car segment, this automaker shall focus its attention exclusively on ford Figo.

Ford-FusionFusion, launched in 2004, to compete against Skoda’s Fabia and Honda’s Jazz, was promoted by the company as a combination of hatchback and a sports utility vehicle. But, since the sales experienced a heavy decline of 70% , which accounts to only 507 units sold in the months April – January of the current fiscal, Ford plans to phase out this model, while, it will simultaneously launch the new hatchback ford Figo in March this year.

As per the President and Managing Director Ford India, Michael Boneham, Figo will have 85% local content and the cost of ownership, fuel efficiency and cost of parts will be best in its class. Also, this runabout shall target South Africa and South-East Asian nations.

Figo, whose commercial production began on February 5 at the company’s Chennai plant, is expected to take on Hyundai’s i10, Chevrolet Beat and Maruti A-Star.
