Audi’s Autonomous TT Rally Car
Audi is a
ll set to enter the next year’s Pikes Peak Hill climb in Colorado, with its autonomous TTS rally car.
The TTS has been developed by the Volkswagen’s electronics research lab (Stamford University) and Sun Microsystems with an aim of producing a car that is able to drive autonomously at the speed and the style, expected normally by a pro rally driver.
Audi is planning to convert the TTS to fly with the help of wire controls and ensuring that the car remains reliable as well safe without a driver on the board. For this, Stamford and the Sun Microsystems are working on developing the new control systems, which will allow the car to function as a normal rally car on various surfaces.
Besides this the companies are also working to develop a system that will be able to shutdown the car automatically in case it detects, that the running conditions are not safe for the car and it can go out of control.
This car has been named as ‘Shelley’, which according to the sources refers to the nickname of Michelle Mouton, who is the most successful female rally driver of all times and is also the first woman to win at the Pikes Peak.
Mouton also won an event behind the wheel of the Audi sport Quattro in 1985.
The joint effort of both Stamford and the Sun Microsystems is expected to be a great invention and the rally world is looking forward to witness this new machine.
