Skoda Cars in India
Based in Czech Republic, Skoda is a leading automobile brand with car variants like Octavia and Fabia to its credit. Like the other leading car manufacturers, the origin of the brand goes back to the early 1890's. The company was started by Klement and Laurin which first began by manufacturing bicycles. Gradually they moved into manufacturing motorcycles during 1899 and very soon began exporting it. After the first world war it merged with Skoda Works, Czechoslovakia's largest industrial entity. It was around 1945, that Skoda first began manufacturing cars. As a result of privatization, Skoda became the fourth Volkswagen brand in April, 1991. Skoda now has several assembly and manufacturing plants including one in the Indian city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. It was set up in 2001, as Skoda India Pvt Ltd.
