Hindustan Motors (HM), one of the oldest auto makers in India, has come up with the likes of Pajero, Pushpak and Trekker as the multi utility vehicles in technical tie-ups with foreign automakers, the first two could not make substantial headway in the markets while the Trekker getting some semblance of popularity in the rural pockets of the country. Hyundai Terrcan , a crossover between a multi utility vehicle and sports utility vehicle from the South Korean auto major Hyundai, too lost out soon in spite of reasonable performance on the road and recently the company has ceased its production in India.
Taking a leaf from the book of global auto majors, M&M too came up with a range, color and designs of multi utility vehicles. Mahindra Voyager, Mahindra Hard Top Range, Mahindra CL Range and variants of Mahindra MM Range comprised the MUVs from the M&M stable. Same with Tata Motors that modified its versions of Tata Safari and Tata Sumo and came up with its own range of MUVs. Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota, the foreign auto majors too have their own share of MUVs and market share in the Indian multi utility vehicle segment.
