Multi utility vehicles (MUVs) are also known as the Multi purpose vehicles (MPVs) and are also described by some as the poor cousain of passenger cars. The MUVs popularity however in recent times has seen a rise all around the world. In India too, the benefits of MUVs as the multi usgae vehicles has caught the fancy of a good number of potential buyers. Till a few years ago, MUVs were known more as the jeeps in India. To be designed as a lifestly concept car, Cliffrider is likely to combine lifestyle and sporty usage and the stylish looks, plush interirs and technological prowess did catch the fancy of many at the Geneva Automobile Show wehere its prototype was unvelied recently.

The overall growth of the MUVs in India however has been far from impressive. Its overall share has gone down from 24% in 1996-97 to 18.40% in terms of total passenger car sales in 2005-06. The huge number of options in terms of models, price and features for cars is one reason for this phenomenon the high duty structure has pushed up the prices of MUVs in India and accordingly affected the sales.
