Toyota iQ

Toyota iQ is a small car which was designed by Toyota to be the world’s smallest car. This car has specially designed interiors for enabling the maximum inner space, low fuel consumption and being environmentally friendly too. It also has a glass sunroof. Toyota boasts of creating a “techno-organic design along with geometric precision as displayed in the floating “V” centre console in the asymmetrical dashboard. The matt silver door handles have a flowing manta ray shape.

At the base of the V is a single dial which allows you to control the air conditioning whereas the arms of the V contain cabin temperature control with an LCD for display of airflow, twin face-level air vents and a 5.8 inch color touch screen satellite navigation display.

All enhancements in the car have been done with the main aim of providing extra room in the car for eg the steering wheel has a flat bottom for extra leg room for the driver, the audio controls at the wheel ensure extra space and clutter free centre console. One piece moulding of seats releases the much required space and also improves the driver’s functionality. Extra storage space is available below the rear seat, if required the 50:50 split rear seats can be folded flat too. With a stubby but a stylish and cohesive shaped Toyota iQ has its interiors done in rich chocolate-plum colour which prove an interesting contrast to matt silver of the body handles and shape.

All out for maximizing the space area in the car, it has a very different flat under floor fuel tank and rear-angled shock absorbers. The Toyota iQ will have an option of two petrol engines and one diesel engine. With a modified small sized heater/ air conditioner, there is increased passenger are in the front ie right from the base of the windscreen leading to extra cabin space.

The designing of the car allows the placement of a compact engine compartment and front wheels at the corner of the car with short overhangs. This positioning ensures more than 100mm extra cabin length as compared to other Toyota Models.

Toyot iQ meets the Euro NCAP’s top five-star safety rating implying a very good safety factor. Toyota iQ when it hits the market in early 2009 will symobolize a very refined car designed for the urban people for the urban cities by the truly innovative Japanese technology of Toyota.
