The Indian market for the mid sized cars is on an expansion bid. It is evident from the range of awaited mid sizd car models to be launched soon from popular automobile manufacturers. Some of the popular mid sized cars currently rolling through the Indian roads include the likes of Maruti Esteem, Ford Ikon, Hyundai Accent, Tata Indigo, Honda City and Wagon R. However, the gradual transformation of the Indian market from a mere small car market with very little space for the mid sized and luxury cars to a market with tremendous
potential for the mid sized cars is such a short span of time, indeed has been amazing.
The success of models like the Esteem, Indigo, Honda City and Accent has encouraged other Indian and foreign automobile manufacturers to try their hand at new mid sized cars. Forthcoming months shall witness a flurry of upcoming mid sized car models.
While Hyundai Motors and Tata Motors continue to come up with new variants of their existing mid sized cars of Esteem, wagon R and Indigo, Elegante is one such mid sized car that is being prepared and undergoing user trials to be launched soon by the Tata Motors.
Hyundai has recently come up with its Verna that is being described as an improved version of Accent. Fiat Automobiles from Italy has not shown much of an interest in the recent times in the Indian car market but when it comes to the mid sized car segment the company has a couple of aces up its sleeve. Linea and Grand Punto from Fiat are the mid sized cars awaited in the Indian market.
The Japanese automobile giant Mitsubishi has planned to launch Icar though not much details has been disclosed on this model of the mid sized car. Further, the company is also thinking in terms of launching the Icar in association with one of the local car maker. Rhino Rover is another mid sized car from the Rover group that is awaited to be launched in the Indian car market in near future.
