Driving License Renewal

A Driving License in India is valid for 20 years from its issuing date or till the vehicle owner turns 50, whichever is earlier. However, if the license to be used is for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle, it needs to be renewed once every three years.

Requirement of a Medical Certificate

A medical certificate is mandatory if:

1) The vehicle owner is above 40 years of age.

2) The vehicle owner holds a commercial license.

Documents Required for Renewal of Driving License

For Private License

For Commercial License

• Application in Form No.9 .

• Rs.15 for fees and Rs.65 for the photograph and lamination of the license.

• 2 copies of one's recent passport size photograph.

• Driving license held.

• Proof of age and residence.

• Medical Form No.1 A only if age is more than 40 years.

• The above documents as used in Private License.

• Driver refreshing Training certificate in case of HMV.

• Medical Form No.1 A in all cases.

The records are not verified for a Private License if the particulars seem to be clear on the license. But in case of a Commercial License, the particulars are verified from the issuing authority. The renewal of a Private License is completed on the very same day on which it was submitted for renewal. But in case of a Commercial License, the renewal process is completed only after adequate verification of the particulars.
