Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce was initially established as Rolls-Royce Limited in 1906. It was mainly into the manufacturing of Car and Aero-Engines. It's a British Company. Later in 1971 due to financial problems the company was nationalized. However, in 1973, Rolls-Royce Motors were formed by pulling the car segment out of the parent company. At that point of time, Vickers acquired the company in 1980. Later, in1998 even they decided to sell off the company. The two main contenders then were Volkswagen and BMW. So it was finally decided that from

1998 to 2002, BMW will allow Volkswagen to use the name "Rolls-Royce" but from January 1st 2003, BMW will have the exclusive right to use the brand name "Rolls-Royce".

So till now, BMW owns the brand name "Rolls Royce". India and Rolls-Royce has a long history, it can be dated back to almost 70 years ago. It was when Rolls-Royce sold its first aero engine to Mr. J.R.D Tata. It also has a tie up with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

However, regarding Rolls-Royce Motor Co. it was different story altogether. They have returned to India almost after a gap of 50 years. Till 1955, almost 730 Rolls-Royce cars had been sold to Indian customers. And the company is also of the opinion that like before their cars will be highly accepted and loved by the Indian people due to the brand name of Rolls-Royce. They also believe that India's tremendous current economic growth will be an added advantage for them.

Currently, they have launched the super luxury "Phantom" sedan in the country. This particular model has been worked upon after Rolls-Royce became a part of BMW in 2003. The car is priced somewhere between Rs 3.5-4 crore. The car can also be ordered in a higher wheel base version as well. The car can also be customized according to the customers want and need. However, a time period will then be required for the delivery of the car. They are also of the opinion that as India had accepted the other Rolls-Royce cars before, so in the same way they would also appreciate the Phantom model. Initially, they would like to start by selling something around seven to eight cars in a year. It is likely that by the end of 2007, a convertible model is expected to be launched in India. The official dealer of Rolls-Royce in India is Navnit Motors.

Currently, Rolls-Royce manufactures approximately 800 units a year. The particular model of cars that Rolls-Royce has launched in the Indian market is:
