Auto Gas
Auto Gas is the name by which Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is known as when it performs the function of providing fuel to the automobiles.
Chemical Constituents
Chemically, Auto Gas is a mixture of Propane and Butane in fixed proportions. It is extracted as a spin-off after oil has been distilled from crude oil. At a room temperature, Auto gas remains in a gaseous form but through measured application of pressure and change of temperature the gas is compressed into a liquid. This explains its name- Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
Why Use Auto Gas
The following points can be put forward, which clearly explains the wisdom of choosing Auto gas over petrol or gasoline-
- Lead, which is a proven agent of pollution is absent in Auto gas, thus the emissions from the vehicles using Auto gas are not so harmful.
- Auto gas is more combustible than any other fuel, primarily because of High Octane content.
- Auto Gas has less carbon compared to other fuels and hence is easier on the engines.
- Using Auto Gas means lowering the content of carbon monoxide in the air.
Countries are gradually realizing the hazards of air pollution and though late the remedial programs are in full swing, one of which forms the usage of Auto Gas.
Auto gas finds maximum usage in countries like Japan, Netherlands, North America, and Mexico.
